Mangalore: 'Politicians misusing violence in Mangalore'

Mangalore Oct 17: The district BJP has alleged that certain politicians have been misusing the issue of recent violence in Mangalore in order to gain political mileage.

Addressing a press meet here on Monday, the district BJP Spokesperson K Monappa Bhandary said, the act of using the incident to disturb peace repeatedly is condemnable.

"The politically motivated statement of former minister D K Shivakumar who termed Bajrang Dal and District-in-Charge Minister as the direct cause for the violence, is ridiculous and shows his political ignorance," he said.

"Mr Shivakumar has said that the curfew existed in Mangalore was one such which the state had never seen. But he has forgotten that a total of eight innocent people were killed in Surathkal riot, where curfew was imposed continuously for seven days," Mr Bhandary said and added that a person having a responsible position should not make such statements without learning the ground realities.

He observed that the allegation made by JD (S) district President Vasanth Bangera and Janata Dal leader Farooq Ullal indicated the leaning of a section of JD(S) towards Congress. "When the Wakf Board itself had reported that the violence in Mangalore was not at all a Hindu-Muslim riot but an incident caused by miscreants, the leaders belonging to Congress and JD (S) are trying to create differences among the two communities just for their political advantage," he criticised.

Stating that strict actions should be taken against such politicians too, Mr Bhandary demanded for separate enquiry into the plot behind the recent incidents at B C Road, Vittal and the explosion taken place in Puttur taluk.

MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik and district BJP office-bearers were present.
